On that note, you can also raid enemy sea trading lanes (indicated by a red line) for a certain amount of money.ĭiplomacy-wise, your main objective is to attain trade rights with as many factions as possible. Each ship placed on the trade post will increase income up to a maximum of 20 ships. These will provide huge boosts to revenue, and you can build trade ships to maximize trade income from them. Try to occupy as many trade posts (located mainly in the south-western sea) as possible. Your units won't automatically replenish unless they have a general leading them or are garrisoned in a settlement.
Units caught in enemy territory over winter will suffer from attrition (loss in numbers) - this applies to both you and the AI. Always keep an eye on your food supply - even a sizable surplus can turn into a deficit in the space of a turn, resulting in significant population unrest. You can increase the number of buildings you can have in a settlement by upgrading your castle but at the cost of food. Invest in farms, trade/market buildings, and the like to build up a steady income. Those are basically the most super-beginner tips I've picked up so far, I'm sure more experienced players can chime in with much more!įocus on developing your economy first before expanding too much. They're most effective in the initial charge, so line them up, charge, withdraw, charge again, and keep pounding them like that. Be wary of using them to take on infantry head-on instead, use your infantry to lock up their infantry, then use your cavalry against their flanks or back. Unless they have skirmishing superiority, in which case you might want to bite the bullet and charge yourself. Approach the other army, let skirmishers do their thing until they charge at you, then withdraw behind the infantry line. Try not to fight on multiple fronts.Ī little tip I learned is that it's better to fight an army with two armies with a general in each instead of just clubbing them together into a giant army, since that will ensure that both generals will gain XP.Īs for the battles themselves- skirmishers in front, main infantry right behind them in the middle, yaris on the flank, and keep a couple of cavalry units on each flank. Try to play the diplomacy game, target enemies close to you and build alliances with clans who aren't an immediate threat and might help you against your enemies.

Upgrade farms asap in provinces with fertile soil, that will really help your economy. Some things I've picked up on- get your castles to level 2, and build sake dens, markets or temples, and keep the military buildings in provinces which give you bonuses (ones with fletchers, horses, etc). I've been watching a few videos by HeirofCarthage on YouTube, and lurking the subreddit a bit. Hey, I just started Shogun II a week ago, and it's my first TW as well!
